Nosy Sakatia
Nosy Sakatia, known as orchid island for its abundance of wild orchids, is certainly the most authentic of Nosy Be’s islands (protected and listed by the Ministry of the environment). It includes colourful old favourites such as coffee, pepper and vanilla plants, traveller’s trees, pineapples, cashew trees, mango and jackfruit trees, guava trees, eucalyptus, raffia, orchids and medicinal plants, etc….
On the road to Nosy Sakatia, it is common to encounter whales and whale sharks in season. This well preserved island on the West Coast of Nosy Be is home to numerous sites highly appreciated by both the scientific and ornithological communities. And a protected area for sea turtles has been created .
You can also see at first hand the culture and traditional activities of the island’s inhabitants, (rites and customs, beliefs and legends), fishermen, rearers, farmers and craftsmen or women.
The island’s attractive beaches are the perfect place to relax.
